Woodbridge Human Services 2024 Living Treasure award winner Tom Kenefick grew up in Guilford and credits his volunteerism to his dad who served on the Guilford Board of Education for 20 years. Tom attended SCSU where he met his future wife, Robin.

Tom and Robin moved to Woodbridge with their two children in 1993 when they bought Tom’s grandparents’ house. Now Tom and Robin have two grandchildren of their own.

As their kids went through Woodbridge schools, Tom was one of the founding members of the Woodbridge Soccer Club and volunteered as a coach for 12 years. Tom coached and was league treasurer for the Woodbridge Fathers Baseball League – now Beth-Wood Baseball League. He also coached the All-Star teams.

Tom served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Assumption Church from 1997 to 2007. He joined the Republican Town Committee and was an active volunteer until 2014. Tom became a member of the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Association in 1997 and is still a member. He has served as the Association Chaplin since 2000. Tom joined the Knights of Columbus (K of C) in 2011 and has been a member of the Assumption Church K of C chapter for four years.

Tom was elected to serve on the Beecher Board of Education in 1997 and served one term. While on the board, he was chair of the Beecher Facilities Committee and was an active member on the Diversity Committee and the Project Choice Committee. Tom was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 2013 and served two terms; he was also a member of the Board of Finance for two terms beginning in 2017.

Tom served on the Conservation Commission and has been an active member of the Woodbridge Park Association since 2018. He is responsible for all the trail maintenance on the Hampton Road trail and assists with maintenance and upgrades of the Alice Newton Park trails. Most recently he was appointed to the Woodbridge Sustainability Committee where he serves as co-chair.
